Garden Writers Association Scholarship
Stephanie Petersen was the recipient of the Garden Writers Association Scholarship! The Garden Writers Association is an organization of over 1,800 highly respected professionals in the gardening industry that communicate to the public about horticulture, gardening, and the environment. They offer scholarships to students majoring in Horticulture to develop skills and further their education to a career in home gardening media communications.
Each application must be accompanied by a supporting letter from the student's major professor. Each student must also submit at least 2 written compositions or photographs demonstrating their interest in garden communication and/or garden photography. Scholarships are given annually and vary in number (2-6) and amount ($250-$2000).
Stephanie learned about this scholarship from Brother Nelson. She submitted her two essays to the foundation but she also included a poem, so she could show that she could do something other than essays. Congratulations to Stephanie!
Below is a list of the BYU-Idaho Horticulture students who received the PLANET Academic Excellence Foundation (PLANET AEF) scholarships this year. These students received their scholarships at a special Scholarship Recognition Reception that was held on April 8th, 2010. Congratulations students! Tim Stevenson - INLA Scholarship
Tim Stevenson received the INLA Scholarship. He found out about the Idaho Nursery & Landscape Association scholarship last year on the Horticulture blog. He applied for the scholarship then, but didn't receive it. He put a reminder on the calender in his phone to apply again this year and it definitely paid off. One thing he did that really made a difference was he actually went to Ann Bates (the INLA director in Idaho Falls) and hand delivered it. This was good because she got to meet him in person. Tim received $750! Congrats TIm! If you have questions for Tim, you can email him at email@example.com.
