The Jefferson County’s DIY Island contest is a competition to landscape and design the island in the man-made Jefferson Lake. The Jefferson County Parks and Recreation department is hoping the public will have fresh ideas and concepts to transform the island into a destination. The Parks and Recreation department will select 10 entries for the public to vote on at the July 2nd Independence Day celebration held at the lake. The winner will get a $100 Grand prize, second place $25 gift card and third place $10 gift card. All designs need to be submitted by June 24 at the Jefferson County Courthouse in Rigby. Our aim for the Department of Horticulture at Brigham Young University-Idaho is to nurture understanding of both the art and science of Horticulture. Students learn experimentally in the classroom, laboratory, greenhouse, and ten acre Thomas E. Ricks demonstration garden as they pursue an Associates or Bachelors Degree. Using the medium of plants, students develop habits of hard work, enlightened minds, and healthy living that assist in gainful employment opportunitues.
